Three Owls Named to All-Region Teams

BOCA RATON, Fla.  –  On Tuesday afternoon, United Soccer Coaches announced its selections for All-Region teams. The Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team saw three student-athletes awarded on the All-South Region teams for their performances this season.

Gi Krstec was selected as United Soccer Coaches First Team All-South Region, while Bri Austin and Amanda Martin were tabbed Second Team All-South Region.

“We are excited to have three players recognized as All-Region and each from a different position,” FAU head coach Patrick Baker said. “Gi, Amanda and Bri all had individually successful seasons within the framework of our positive team performances.”

KRSTEC EARNS THIRD ALL-REGION HONOR

Krstec earns her third career and third consecutive all-region honor. This marks the first time she has been named to first team recognition. Krstec provided an exceptional season for the Owls, scoring a career-high five goals and recording a career-high 17 points. Krstec, an FAU captain, was selected as Conference USA Midfielder of the Year and First Team All-C-USA for her efforts. She also recorded three assists on the season, and four of her goals were game-winners.

“Gi has a tremendous engine and had been a key figure to our team for so long,” Baker said. “Her offensive output this fall was wonderful to see, and this is another award to her growing trophy case. Her leadership, training habits and personality will be missed upon graduation.”

AUSTIN NAMED TO FIRST CAREER ALL-REGION AWARD

Austin receives her first career all-region honor. The graduate student forward led the FAU offensive attack and was the Owls’ leader in goals (9) assists (7) and points (25). Austin ranked second in C-USA in goals as well as points, and placed fourth in assists. Four of Austin’s goals served as game-winners. For her efforts, Austin was also named First Team All-C-USA earlier this month.

“Bri provided some crucial goals throughout her final year,” Baker said. “She had the game-winner vs. Kansas, the game-winner vs FIU in conference play and the same vs. Charlotte in the C-USA Tournament. It was great to see that her and the other seniors played some of their best soccer this past fall, that shows true development and sets a new standard for the program.”

MARTIN RECEIVES SECOND ALL-REGION AWARD

Martin receives her second consecutive all-region award with this honor. This season, Martin was the centerpiece of the terrific FAU defensive line, one that allowed less than one goal per game (0.95) to rank second in the conference at 21 goals allowed in 22 games. Martin, a constant on the FAU pitch, led the Owls in minutes played at 1,930, which is 96.5% of the possible 2,000 minutes. She also scored a goal in the Owls’ 2-0 win over FIU.

“Amanda was such a presence in our back line this fall, and she played her last season with great focus and intensity,” said Baker. “Her defensive prowess was again key to us getting back to a double-digit win season and making a run at the C-USA tournament title.”

These three Owls were key components of the run to the Conference USA Championship Game. FAU now has had at least one United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection in nine consecutive seasons.
