Former Bulls safety recognized for academic achievement
TAMPA, APRIL 18, 2019 – Former USF standout safety Jaymon Thomas (Immokalee, Fla.) has been honored as a 2019 member of the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.
The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions who maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their entire college careers, were significant contributors to their respective teams throughout the 2018 season and completed their final year of eligibility in 2018.
Thomas, who earned his degree in health sciences in December, maintained a 3.45 undergraduate GPA at USF while earning his bachelor’s degree. Thomas joined junior defensive end Kirk Livingstone (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) in being named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District team in 2018 and was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy presented by the National Football Foundation. Thomas earned academic all-conference recognition three times and was twice named to the USF Athletics Honor Roll.
Thomas finished his senior season with 51 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and an interception while playing in all 13 games and making six starts. He finished his USF career with 157 career tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles while playing in 44 games and making 18 starts.
NFF Hampshire Honor Society members receive a certificate commemorating their achievement. The 2019 class marks the 13th year that the National Football Foundation has honored student-athletes for their academic accomplishments.
USF will open its 23rd season of football with a primetime clash vs. Wisconsin on Friday, Aug. 30. TheBulls will play seven home games in Raymond James Stadium during the 2019 season, five against opponents that played in bowl games last season.
The 2019 Bulls return 16 starters (9 offense, 5 defense, 2 specialists) from a 2018 squad that reached the program’s fourth straight bowl game. USF’s third season under head coach Charlie Strong will feature a new offensive coordinator in Kerwin Bell, who led Valdosta State to an NCAA Division II national championship with the nation’s top scoring offense (52.0 ppg) last year.
