This Week in Sharks Athletics

In the first week of crossover play with both winter and spring sports in action, five NSU Sharks Athletics teams combined to go an astounding 11-1 last week. Men’s Basketball improved to a perfect 20-0 and 15-0 in Sunshine State Conference play, with one ranked win at home and one 57-point win on the road, and are the only unbeaten men’s team remaining in NCAA Division II. Women’s Basketball improved to 14-8 on the year, and Head Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry moved to within one victory of 200 in her NSU career. At 9-6 in the SSC standings, they currently sit in sixth place and just 1.5 games out of fourth, with both matchups this week against teams ahead of them. Both diamond sports began their 2022 seasons over the weekend, as the Sharks’ baseball team started their season with three wins from the NSU Baseball Complex and the softball program went 3-1 at the DII Gulf Shores Invitational, with an upset victory over No. 23 Alabama-Huntsville to close out the weekend. The Women’s Tennis squad also kicked off their season with a 5-0 SSC road sweep of Embry-Riddle.
