The Vikings Came to Face the Den

By: Jeremy T. Ballreich

On January 7th, 2024 at 1 pm. The Minnesota Vikings came to the Motor City to face off against the Detroit Lions. But with Nick Mullins (34 Touchdowns and 31 Interceptions) he doesn’t exactly strike fear into the hearts of defenses.

Justin Jefferson is one of the greatest WRs in the game, and their only consistent offensive weapon since their rookie standout, Jordan Addison was injured.

Defensively, Brian Flores has the defense playing at a high level due to his scheme more than having great players on it. They have been lacking in the run game, but have been a top blitzing team in the league, since about halfway through the season.

But our Detroit Lions were up to the task at hand. Coming out and throwing, scoring haymakers early and often. Up 13 to nothing in the first quarter. Then only relinquished six points in the 2nd to the Vikings.

Jared Goff had to be on point as it seemed the Vikings were selling out to stop the run. David Montgomery had 40 yards on ten carries and a Touchdown to surpass 1000 yards this season. Jahmyr Gibbs had 13 carries and 30 yards with a TD himself.

Jared Goff was 23/32 with 320 yards and two TDs himself. But did not throw one interception.

Amon-Ra (The Sun God) St. Brown had another seven receptions 144 yards with a 70-yard Touchdown reception where he just ran through the defense, like a hot knife through butter.

Sam LaPorta carved up and had a decent game, despite leaving the contest early due to injury. Five receptions 29 yards and another TD. He ended the year with 86 receptions, 889 yards and ten touchdowns (leads all Tight Ends in the league)!

Defensively, the boys did very good against the Vikings.

Cam Sutton, and Ceedy Duce (Formerly Chaucey Gardner-Johnson) had one interception each.

Aidan Hutchinson had four tackles with two sacks against the Vikings signal caller.

Jack Campbell had seven solo and five assisted tackles to lead all tacklers with 12 total tackles. 2nd was Alex Anzalone with eight solo and one assisted.

Levi Onwuzurike, and Jack Campbell joined the sack party with one each.

Special Teams were the stars of the game though.

Khaliff Raymond averaged over 20 yards per punt return with four of them for 89 yards.

Craig Reynolds had one kick return for 26 yards.

Jack Fox punted five times for 268 yards! A 53.2 average for the game.

Final Score:
MIN    20
DET    30
