The Detroit Lions went into Sofi Stadium as the NFC North Division Leaders, and thanks to 200 yards of Rushing and 333 yards through the air defeat the high-powered Los Angeles Chargers offense in what should be considered one of the best games of the day! If you love scoring.
David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combined for 200 yards on the ground. David Montgomery broke off a 75 yard TD run with the oline making a hole so that Jameson Williams could seal off a blocker to break him free downfield for the score. Jahmyr Gibbs had 2 rushing touchdowns of his own. David Montgomery had 12 carries for 116 yards (9.667 YPC). While Jahmyr Gibbs contributed another 77 on 14 carries (5.5 YPC). Amon-Ra St. Brown had 2 carries for 9 more yards.
Jared Goff continued his top 10 QB play with 23 of 33 passing 69.7% completion percentage 333 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Led by Amon-Ra St. Brown with 8 catches for 156 yards (19.5 avg) with a long of 46 yards. Brock Wright TE2 had the other Touchdown on a 25 yard pass. Goff completed passes to 7 different receivers, including 2022 1st round pick Jameson Williams (0 drops!)
Defensively the only thing that remains true is 8 of their 9 games, the Lions Defense held another opponent to under 100 yards (98 to be exact). But continue to struggle to get pressure against another good QB and offense. The gameplannig against good to great QBs confounds me to no end!
Justin Herbert had a great game for the Chargers. 27 of 40 passing for 67.5% 323 yards 4 TDs and 1 Interception.
Austin Ekeler was held to 19 rushes for 67 yards with 1 TD. Herbert’s favorite target was Keenan Allen and rightfully so! He had 11 cat he’s for 175 yards (15.9 avg.) and 2 TDs. He also threw passes to 5 other receivers.
Neither team recorded a sack defensively. So both Olines did their job.
Hard fought game that was tied with 2:00 minutes left that the Lions ate the clock to let Riley Patterson win the game with a 41 yard FG as time expired.
Final Score was Detroit with 41 and Los Angeles 38.
