The American Announces 2023-24 Men’s Basketball Conference Schedule

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced its men’s basketball conference schedule for the 2023-24 season.

Every team in The American will play 18 league games, including five of its 13 conference opponents twice and the other eight once – four at home and four on the road. Starting this season, The American will have 14 teams competing in men’s basketball with the six additions of UAB, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice and UTSA joining continuing members, East Carolina, Memphis, South Florida, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State.

The 2023-24 season will be The American’s fourth under its media rights extension with ESPN, which will allow for a minimum of 60 conference-controlled games to be televised on either ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. A minimum of 23 of those games will be on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

In addition, CBS will broadcast two conference contests as well as one non-conference matchup.

The conference slate begins January 2, 2024 as 2023 Final Four participant Florida Atlantic hosts East Carolina, UTSA hosts UAB and Charlotte travels to SMU.

All games that are televised on an ESPN network will also be available on the ESPN App to authenticated pay TV subscribers.

CBS Sports’ broadcast coverage will be available to stream live on Paramount+, with additional coverage on and CBS Sports HQ.

Six programs earned postseason bids in 2022-23. Florida Atlantic and Memphis were selected to the NCAA Championship with the Owls advancing to their first Final Four. UAB and North Texas competed in the NIT championship game with the Mean Green pulling out the victory. Charlotte and Rice competed in the CBI and the 49ers won the tournament. The six teams combined for a postseason tournament record of 17-4.

The 2023 American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship will take place March 13-17 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. All games of the championship will be televised on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU, including the championship final on ESPN.

The American will preview the 2023-24 season Oct. 9 when the league hosts its Basketball Media Day on ESPN+. Coverage from the Grand Hyatt DFW in Dallas will begin at 9 a.m. Eastern.
