Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team, 3 Sharks Named Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced the national honors for academics in collegiate tennis and the Nova Southeastern Sharks produced three scholar-athletes who proved to shine brightly in the classroom during the challenging 2019-20 academic year. In addition, the entire Sharks squad received team All-Academic honors with a 3.41 annual grade point average.

Junior Ivana Djordjevic receives her third honor and sophomore Caitlyn Khan repeats, while junior Karolina Snita receives honors for her first season at NSU.

“Proud of these three ladies achieving this prestigious award,” head coach Doug Neagle said, “especially during these unprecedented times having to finish all of their courses online. Caitlyn Khan earned another 4.0 this semester, and has a cumulative 4.0 GPA! Our entire team earned the All-Academic Team Award as well. These young ladies have a lot on their plates, and to be this successful in the classroom speaks volumes.”

The Sharks garner at least three Scholar-Athletes honored for the ninth consecutive year.

ITA Scholar-Athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year). For All-Academic teams, the program must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

Despite the shortened season, the No. 3-ranked Sharks were off to another hot start and these academic stars were providing immense contributions on the court as well. Aiding the team’s 13-1 overall record, Snita was perfect at 11-0 in singles and went 9-2 in doubles play to receive All-America honors in her first season with the Sharks. Djordjevic went 5-0 in doubles and 4-0 in singles, while Khan was 4-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles.
