Taravella football hopes to improve

From David VolzThe Taravella football team is working hard for success this season. The Trojans are coming off a lost to Stranahan but they are getting ready to play Calvary Christian Academy this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. on the Taravella campus. Coach Charles Hafley believes the Trojans can win if everyone plays and practices as a team. “The players need to buy into the team concept. We have had a winning season if the players work together,” he said.The Stranahan game was a learning experience for the Trojans. Michael Brown had seven rushes for 65 yards and Victor King had two tackles for losses. Andrew Kerr had an interception. 

New residential development coming to Oakland Park

The Newrock Partners broke ground on Project O on the morning of August 30. Project O is a needed residential development coming to Oakland Park. It will be located at the northwest corner of Oakland Park Boulevard and Federal Highway. The 11-story building will wrap around the circular KenAnn Building and will complement that iconic structure. Project O will feature 274 residential units and approximately 19,000 square feet of retail space. 

Pompano Beach to hold budget meeting

The Pompano Beach City Commission will be holding two Special Commission Meetings for the purpose of Budget Hearings on Monday, September 13 th and Monday, September 20 th. Both meetings will be held at 5:15 p.m. at the City Commission Chambers located at 100 West Atlantic Boulevard. The Budget Hearings will formally adopt the proposed Millage Rates and Budgets for fiscal year 2021/2022 for the City, the Emergency Medical Services Special District, the final Fire Asses

The Florida Ports Council Board of Directors has elected its slate of officers for 2021-2022.

Jonathan Daniels, Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director, was elected Chair, and Carlos Buqueras, Port Manatee Executive Director, was elected Vice Chair.

“I am truly honored to be chosen to lead the Florida Ports Council and look forward to working with the council’s new president, Michael Rubin, his new staff and all the council members,” said Daniels. “I am excited to help guide our ports forward and safeguard Florida’s position in global commerce and cruising.”

Daniels currently serves on the FPC and the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Board of Directors, and as a member of the AAPA National Defense Committee. He is also serving a two-year term as the AAPA U.S. South Atlantic Ports Representative. Daniels sits on the Boards of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and is an active member of the Alliance Partner Council. The Broward County Board of County Commissioners named Daniels as Chief Executive and Port Director in May 2020 after previously serving as executive director of the Port of Gulfport, MS, since 2013.
