SWIM – Hewitt, Trieschmann Earn SSC Yearly Honors

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced on Tuesday the 2024 women’s swimming individual awards. Emily Trieschmann and Ben Hewitt were awarded the Swimmer of the Year and Coach of the Year honors, respectively.

League coaches vote on the SSC Swimmer, Freshman, and Coach of the Year awards following the NCAA Division II National Championship. All-SSC swimmers were selected earlier this season following the conference championship meet, which was held February 14-18 at Florida Aquatics Swimming Training in Ocala.

Trieschmann repeats as Swimmer of the Year accolades after being named CSCAA National Swimmer of the Year. Trieschmann won four individual and one relay national championships for the Sharks at the NCAA Championship. The junior remains the sixth Shark to be named Swimmer of the Year. Her NCAA championship performance lifted NSU to a second consecutive team national title. Trieschmann becomes the first NSU swimmer and third overall to win SSC Swimmer of the Year twice.

The Lake Worth, Florida native repeats as the national champion in the 500 Free, 1000 Free, and 1650 Free. She also took home the top prize in the 200 Free, becoming the first SSC athlete to win four individual titles at one championship. Trieschmann set NCAA DII records in the 800 Free and 1000 Free. Additionally, she owns the SSC records in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 Free. As a relay swimmer, she led the Sharks to national championship gold in the 800 Free Relay. Trieschmann and teammates now own the NCAA DII record in the 800 Free Relay.

Hewitt four-peats as SSC Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year, earning the award for a league-leading sixth time. He piloted the Sharks to a second consecutive national championship and the eighth women’s SSC championship in program history. With Hewitt’s guidance, the Shark swimmers won seven national titles at the NCAA Championship, broke three NCAA Division II records, and set six SSC records. Twelve NSU women won a combined 45 All-America honors, and the Sharks’ program claimed its seventh SSC Swimmer of the Meet, sixth SSC Swimmer of the Year, and the CSCAA National Swimmer of the Year.
