Sunshine Statement! Lynn Men’s Soccer Completes Comeback, Wins SSC Title in PKs

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s men’s soccer team stared down a two-goal deficit at halftime versus visiting-Palm Beach Atlantic, but was never phased, scoring two goals in the second half before Joao Delgado netted the clincher in penalty kicks to secure the Fighting Knights’ first SSC Tournament Title since 2016, Lynn’s 45th SSC Championship overall.

STATS OF THE GAME:

·         PBA came out firing from the outset, scoring goals in the 21st and 34th minute to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the locker room.

·         A refreshed and energized Blue and White squad took the momentum back with a Lukas Ostermann goal, assisted by Levin Sandmann, just 1:10 into the second half.

·         Ostermann repaid his German counterpart in the 63rd minute, serving a ball to the near post which Sandmann volleyed on the one-time to even the score at 2-all.

·         The final 27 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods couldn’t settle the result, setting the stage for penalty kicks.

·         PBA found the wood work with its first two kicks and Rodrigo Fernandez, Sandmann, Ostermann and Delgado went 4-for-4, respectively, to finish off the victory.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

·         Ostermann was named the Outstanding Player of the Tournament after his three-point performance (1G, 1A).

·         Ostermann, Sandmann, Rodrigo Fernandez, David Anzenhofer, Lukas Borner and goalkeeper Konstantin Fuhry were all named to the All-SSC Tournament Team.

·         Lynn last won the ‘double’, the SSC regular season and postseason title, in 2016.
