Strong Second Half Pushes Cincinnati Past USF

TAMPA, FLA., MARCH 3, 2020 – Keith Williams had a career-high 30 points and Cincinnati beat South Florida 79-67 on Tuesday night.

Tre Scott added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Cincinnati (19-10, 12-5 American Athletic Conference).

Justin Brown (Atlanta) had 16 points for the Bulls (13-17, 6-11). Laquincy Rideau (West Palm Beach, Fla.) added 15 points. Michael Durr (Atlanta) had 13 points and eight rebounds.

USF led by as many as eight points in the first half and took a 39-33 lead into halftime after a free throw from David Collins (Youngstown, Ohio) with seven seconds left in the first half.

Collins gave USF its largest lead of the game midway through the second half with a three-pointer in the corner that put the Bulls ahead 56-43.

Cincinnati responded with a 27-6 run over the next 12 minutes to build an eight-point lead with just over a minute in regulation.

Quotable
Head coach Brian Gregory on the game:
“Give Cincinnati a ton of credit for digging down there when we got the lead. It wasn’t one thing that got us, they were able to get us in a lot of different areas. We had three or four shots at the rim that we didn’t finish, and they made some high-level offensive plays. Unfortunately, some of the things that we struggle with came into play again.”

Notable
• Michael Durr scored in double figures in four straight games for the first time in his career.
• Brian Gregory coached his 100th career game at USF.
• USF made 10 three-pointers and has made the fifth-most in single season in school history.
