Stoneman Douglas to play opening round of state championship on Friday night

The Stoneman Douglas baseball team is getting ready to play in the opening round of the state tournament on Friday in Fort Myers. The Eagles are 28-2 and will play Hagerty. They defeated Columbus to win the regional championship.

Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald is proud of his team and believes they can do well. “It will take a total team effort. It will be all hands on deck. The coaches will have to coach well and the players will have to play well. We will have to hit well and play good defense. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will probably win.”

Top players for the Eagles include Santiago Ordonez, Christian Rodriguez, Roman Anthony, Chris Arroyo and Jake Clemente. Fitz-Gerald said everyone on the team has played well this season.

Stoneman Douglas has produced many top notch high school baseball teams and players. Many of those players have gone on to play college baseball and some like Anthony Rizzo have gone on to major league stardom.
