Sterling Lester earns her fourth top-4 multis finish of the season
AUSTIN, Texas – Sterling Lester earned third at Texas Relays women’s heptathlon competition on Thursday. Lester was the only Gator to travel to the Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Relays, facing off against athletes from 13 schools ranked in the top-25.
Lester competed in the heptathlon, comprised of the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin, and 800m. She led off the competition with the 100m hurdles, besting the competition and placing first with a time of 13.54. In the second heptathlon event, Lester cleared 1.65m/5’5″ in the high jump, finishing eleventh. In the shot put, Lester threw 11.90m/39’0.5″, placing tenth in the third event. Fourth up for Lester was the 200m, where she excelled finishing third (23.89), positioning herself third overall in the heptathlon standings.
Following the 200m was the long jump, where Lester secured a tenth-place finish on a jump of 5.7m/18’8.5″. In the javelin throw, Lester finished thirteenth (31.48m/103’3″). In the competition’s final event, Sterling Lester earned first in the 800m (2:13.80), securing her a third place finish in the heptathlon.
Lester has finished in the top-4 of every multis competition she has participated in during the 2023 season. She finished third twice and fourth once in the pentathlon during the indoor season. The fourth place finish came at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where Lester scored a personal best in the competition (4358) and moved into second all time in school history in the event.
