Souza Berti Makes History and Kinna Brings Home POW Honors

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Riding a historic run on the court, Lynn volleyball is putting together an impressive streak of awards won off the floor. For the third-straight week they have won Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors and for the second time this season they have brought home multiple winners in a single week. This time around it is setter Biatriz Souza Berti and outside hitter Marine Kinna.

Souza Berti has put together a run rarely seen in the SSC. She was now been named setter of the week three-straight weeks. She is the first setter in the history of the player of the week awards to win the honor three-straight times and just the second volleyball ever.

Her week was highlighted by a 54 assist performance in a win over region No. 1 Tampa. Overall she had 139 assists in just 11 sets. For good measure, she added 15 digs against the Spartans and finished with 29 for the week.

She moved into the primary setter role midway through the season and since has posted at least 30 assists in 13-straight matches.

Kinna has put together a season that will have her as one of the favorites to be named conference player of the year.

Her best outing of the week also came in the No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup against UT. She led all players with 21 kills. It was the second time in four matches she posted at least 20. Proving she isn’t just a one-way player, Kinna had 19 digs in the victory as well.

For the week, she posted 55 kills in just 11 sets and hit .257 while digging 37 balls.

As a team, the Fighting Knights have tied the program’s longest winning streak with their 10 consecutive wins and will look to set a new mark Friday when they host Eckerd as part of the Adidas Challenge on Friday.
