SEATTLE (August 24th, 2023) – South Florida men’s soccer (0-1) lost, 2-0, to No. 6 Washington (1-0) in the season opener at Husky Stadium on Thursday night.
The Bulls managed to take six shots throughout the match, with four in the first half of action. The Huskies only managed to find just two more opportunities than USF. Both squads had three shots on target. Twenty-six fouls were whistled throughout the match, and 18 of those were handed to Washington.
The Huskies Bryan Iliohan logged a brace by netting both of the opponent’s goals, divided between the first and second half in the 38’ and 64’ minutes, respectively.
COACH BUTEHORN SAID
“Washington rarely loses at home so for us to play them even statistically isn’t good enough,” said head coach Bob Butehorn. “We had to finish our chances and be more assertive with our game.”
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- USF’s record in all-time season openers moved to 39-17-4.
- Washington has won all three meetings in the all-time series.
- Alan Horrocks collared his first career start in between the posts.

USF Men’s Soccer competed in the school’s first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3.
