Softball – Sharks Win Regional Opener in a Thriller

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Softball team won in thrilling fashion against West Alabama in the opening round of the NCAA South Regional Tournament. Kerstyn Shaw walked it off with an RBI double to propel NSU to a 3-2 victory in the postseason showdown.

BOT 3rd | Alexis Smith got it started for NSU, hitting a bunt single to put a runner on base for NSU. Shortly after, Drogemuller grounded out to third base, allowing Smith to safely advance to second. A couple at bats later, Madison Fine came up to the plate and singled up the middle, bringing Smith across home plate for the Sharks first run of the game.  

BOT 4th | The Tigers homered to left center, tying the game up at one a piece.  

BOT 6th | West Alabama took a 2-1 lead off a single to left field. 

BOT 7th | Smith gave the Sharks life, hitting a single to the shortstop. In the ensuing at-bat, Smith stole second, putting a runner in scoring position for NSU. Shortly after, Drogemuller and Langwell were walked in back-to-back at-bats, loading the bases for Nova Southeastern. A wild pitch by the Tigers brought Smith home and tied the game at two. 

BOT 10th | With one runner on base, Kerstyn Shaw doubled down the right field line, bringing the game-winning run home and securing the 3-2 victory for the Sharks.

The Sharks will take on No. 7 seed Auburn Montgomery tomorrow in the second round of the regional tournament, Friday, May 12, at University Softball Field in Saint Leo, Fla. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
