Softball – Sharks Take Down #4 UT Tyler in Game Two of Doubleheader

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Softball team split a doubleheader with #4 ranked UT Tyler on Friday evening. The Sharks dropped game one 8-2 but bounced back in game two, securing the 3-1 victory, thanks to a two-run second inning. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE)  
Score: Nova Southeastern 2 (L: K. Ellard, 5-2), Texas-Tyler 8 (W: T. Goff, 15-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

TOP 2nd | The Patriots tripled to right field, bringing in the first run of the game. 

TOP 3rd | UT Tyler continued to extend their lead, pouring in four runs on back-to-back at bats. 

TOP 5th | A single by the Patriots brought another run home, extending their lead to six runs. 

TOP 8th | UT Tyler tacked on two more runs, giving themselves an 8-0 lead. 

BOT 6th | Alexis Smith singled in the first at-bat of the inning, to give NSU a runner on base. Alyssa Drogemuller followed suit, earning a single of her own to put runners on first and second for the Sharks. Shortly after, Kerstyn Shaw batted in Alexis Smith to give the Sharks their first run of the game. In the ensuing at bat, Madison Fine’s sacrifice fly added another run on the board. The Sharks continued to fight but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback, dropping game one 2-8.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME TWO)  

Score: Nova Southeastern 3 (W: A. Drogemuller, 6-3), Texas-Tyler 1 (L: K. Davis, 4-2)  
Records: Nova Southeastern (16-7, 7-2 SSC), Texas-Tyler (23-4, 13-2)  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

BOT 1st | NSU put the first run on the board, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Madison Fine

Top 2nd | Texas-Tyler answered back with a run of their own, tying the game at one a piece. 

BOT 2nd | Alyssa Drogemuller singled to center field, bringing Smith across home plate. In the next at bat, Tia Williams doubled and brought home another run for NSU, giving them a 3-1 lead. The Sharks would go on to secure the victory and take down #4 UT Tyler 3-1.

  • The Sharks have now taken down three ranked teams this season.

NSU will take the field again tomorrow, Saturday, March 11th, and take on King University  at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.
