Softball – Sharks Shutout King in Doubleheader Sweep

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Softball team shut out King University in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks kicked off the day with a 6-0 victory in game one, propelled by a three-run fifth inning. NSU followed that up with another shutout win led by an impressive pitching performance from Julia Allen.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE)   
Score: Nova Southeastern 6 (W: A. Drogemuller, 7-2), King University 0 (W: T. Luper, 6-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

BOT 3rd | Alexis Smith singled to start the inning for NSU, shortly after, Alyssa Drogemuller batted in Smith for the first run of the game. 

BOT 5th | With three runners on base, Madison Fine stepped up to the plate and did not dissapoint. Fine batted in three runs, giving NSU a 4-0 lead. 

BOT 6th | The Sharks weren’t done yet, tacking on two more runs, thanks to RBIs from Alexi Watkins and Drogemuller. NSU would hold on to the lead and secure the 6-0 victory over King.

Score: Nova Southeastern 7 (W: J. Allen, 5-2), King University 0 (L: L. Counts, 0-5)   
Records: Nova Southeastern (18-7, 7-2 SSC), King University (12-10)   

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

BOT 1st | Sacrifice bunts by Madison Fine and Tia Willams brought home the first two runs of the game for NSU. 

BOT 2nd | Alyssa Drogemuller continued her impressive play, this time batting in two runs to extend the Shark lead to 4-0. 

 BOT 4th | Alexi Watkins scored, tacking on another run for NSU.  

BOT 6th | With two runners on base, Kerstyn Shaw batted in two runs, to give NSU a 7-0 lead and complete the doubleheader sweep over King.  

STAT OF THE MATCH 

  • This was the 5th shutout of the season for NSU. 

UPCOMING 

NSU will take the field again tomorrow, Sunday, March 12th, and take on King University at 10 a.m. at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.
