Softball – Five Sharks Earn SSC Postseason Accolades

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference released its 2023 All-SSC Softball selections on Monday afternoon. Alexis SmithKerstyn ShawAlyssa DrogemullerRyleigh Langwell, and Tia Williams were recognized by the SSC, Smith earned an All Sunshine State Conference First-Team selection, while Shaw, Drogemuller, and Langwell were selected to the All-SSC Second Team. Williams tabbed a spot on the All-SSC defensive team alongside Smith, Langwell, and Shaw.  

Voting for the All-SSC softball awards was conducted among the league’s head coaches. 

Alexis Smith earned a spot on the All-SSC first team after breaking several records this season. Smith currently holds the NSU single-season triples record with 14, giving her 17 career triples which is also the NSU career triples record. To go along with her record-breaking performances, Smith leads the SSC in runs scored (58), RBIs (46), batting average (.414), and triples (14) and ranks among the top five in the SSC in several other offensive categories. The Tampa native also earned four SSC Player of the Week honors. 

A Punta Gorda native, Kerstyn Shaw tabs a spot on the All-SSC second team. Shaw who ranks fourth on the team in batting average has put together quite the resume this season. The junior finished the regular season with 49 hits, 26 RBIs, 21 runs scored, and one home run, ranking among the top five on the team. 

Langwell, a senior leftfielder from Granger, Ind. also finds her name on the All-SSC second team after an impressive season. The senior ranks fifth in the SSC in batting average, and finished the regular season with 50 hits, 35 RBIs, and 45 runs scored despite missing 11 games due to injury. Her .402 batting average ranks second on the team behind All-SSC first team selection, Alexis Smith. Aside from her top batting average ranking in the SSC, Langwell also ranks in the top 10 in triples and RBIs in the conference. The Granger native has also earned an SSC Player of the Week honor. 

Alyssa Drogemuller has been the Swiss Army knife for NSU. The junior landed a spot on the All-SSC second team after her all-around performance this year as a Shark. Drogemuller has been a force in the pitching circle, ranking second in the SSC in wins with 19. On the offensive end, Drogemuller ranks in the top 5 in the conference in walks (45) and runs scored (32).  

Finally, last year’s SSC Player of the Year, Tia Williams, caps her Shark career with an All-SSC defensive team postseason nod. The second basemen’s 144 putouts rank third on the team. Finishing with a .335 batting average, Williams tallied 56 hits with 40 RBI, scoring 37 times. The Land O’ Lakes native ranks in the top five in four major offensive categories in the SSC.  

The Sharks finished the season with a 38-13 record and 22-8 mark in SSC play and has earned the No. 3 seed in the South Region Tournament. 

Ashley Troutman of Rollins was selected as the Player of the Year. Kayla Betts from Saint Leo earns the Pitcher of the Year nod, while the league office recognizes Saint Leo’s Briana Neal as Freshman of the Year. Tampa’s Leslie Kanter has been chosen as SSC Coach of the Year.
