Softball Falls to UCF

ORLANDO, April 22, 2023 – The University of South Florida (27-21, 6-5 ACC)fell to the Central Florida Knights (29-19, 8-3 AAC) in the second game of the series on Saturday, 3-1.  

Sophomore Lydia Castro (Lithia) scored the lone run of the game for the Bulls in the fifth inning. With the first pitch, she sent the ball over the left-field wall for her second homerun of the season.  

In the top of the seventh, South Florida had the game-tying run at the plate but nothing came of it.  

UCF scored all three of their runs in bottom of the fourth inning.  

Jaden Martinez (Tallahassee) earned her 13 start of the season. She pitched 3.2 innings and held the Knights scoreless through three. She retired two batters.  

Vivian Ponn came in as relief and pitched the remainder of the game. She struck out two batters.   

NOTABLES 

  • Along with Castro, Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel) and Meghan Sheehan (Forrest Hill, Md.) got a hit. 
  • Bulls pitching totaled four strikeouts.
  • Sheehan led with four putouts.

South Florida will close out the final War on I-4 tomorrow at 12 p.m.
