Softball Earns American Team Academic Excellence Award

American Athletic Conference Champion USF Softball had the highest team GPA of all eight member institutions in The American in 2019, earning the Team Academic Excellence Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I., July 11, 2019 – American Athletic Conference Champions USF Softball posted the highest team GPA in the conference with a cumulative GPA of 3.55, earning the American Team Academic Excellence Award for the second time in its history.

In each American Athletic Conference sponsored-sport, the team with the highest collective grade-point average is awarded the Team Academic Excellence Award. USF softball last won the honor in 2015-16, and is the only USF squad to win the award for their respective sport in 2018-19. The selections are determined by cumulative GPA and then reviewed by the Faculty Athletic Representatives from each institution and the American Athletic Conference.

Head coach Ken Eriksen led the Bulls to a regular season conference championship, finishing 17-4 in The American and 41-19 overall. The Bulls opened the Tallahassee Regional with a 3-2 victory over No. 21 South Carolina and made the program’s 15th NCAA tournament appearance. The 2019 season produced All-America honors for sophomore pitcher Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.).

In the classroom, USF softball qualified 25 players to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic team, an honor awarded to student-athletes who earned a GPA of 3.00 or higher. The 25 honorees from softball are the most in program history, undoubtedly contributing to the program earning the Team Academic Excellence Award.
