Softball Drops Series Opener Against UCF

ORLANDO, April 21, 2023 – The University of South Florida (27-20, 6-4 ACC)fell to the Central Florida Knights (28-19, 7-3 AAC) in extra innings on Friday night. The Bulls lost 2-1.  

South Florida and UCF kicked off the final War on I-4 conference series with Gabriella Nori (Weston) retiring the first three batters. The Bulls opened the scoring in the top of the second with one run.  

Lauren Bevis (ST. Johns) pinch ran for Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) who got on base with a four-pitch walk. She advanced to second on a groundout and then to third, beating a rundown. With a groundout from Tieley Vaughn (Wesley Chapel), Bevis scored the Bulls first run.  

Both pitchers settled into a pitching duel, both throwing a complete game. UCF tied the game in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.  

Nori finished the game with four strikeouts and one earned run.  

NOTABLES 

  • Trivelpiece now had 12 doubles this season. She is two away from tying the 10th spot in season doubles record.  
  • Bevis has now scored seven runs this season.  
  • Nori now leads the team with 78 strikeouts.  

Up Next 

South Florida will continue the War on I-4 tomorrow with a game time of 1 p.m. The game was moved up due to the threat of inclement weather.
