SMU’s Clothier Named AVCA/GameChanger National Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – SMU graduate middle blocker Emma Clothier was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/GameChanger Women’s Division I Player of the Week, announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Clothier helped guide the Mustangs to a 3-0 week to begin American Athletic Conference play, as SMU defeated Memphis (3-0), and UTSA twice (3-1; 3-0). For the week, she averaged 5.3 points per set and 4.2 kills per set, while hitting .597.

She began the week with a 12-kill performance over Memphis, hitting an impressive .800 in the sweep of the Tigers.  Clothier followed that up with a season-high 17 kills on .577 hitting, while adding seven blocks in a 3-1 victory over UTSA. The Mustangs and Roadrunners faced off a second time, where Clothier added 13 kills on .500 hitting and five blocks in the sweep of UTSA to end the week.

Clothier is the third American player in conference history to be named the AVCA Player of the Week and the first since 2019. She joins Cincinnati’s Jordan Thompson (Sep 18, 2018; Oct. 16, 2018; Nov. 5, 2019) and former Mustang Avery Acker (Sep. 22, 2015).

Clothier and the rest of the Mustangs will be back in action on Friday, September 29 when they host Wichita State at 8 p.m. ET.
