Shrader’s Record Day Earns AAC Player of the Week Honors

Bay area sophomore became the first Bull to make four field goals from 40-plus yards out in a game.

Bulls game vs. Navy (Nov. 21 in Raymond James Stadium) has been set for an 8 p.m. kickoff on ESPNU.

TAMPA, FLA., NOV. 9, 2020 – Bay area sophomore Spencer Shrader (Lithia) was named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week Monday following his record-breaking performance in USF’s one-point, 34-33, loss at Memphis on Saturday.

Shrader had a career day in the kicking game, going 4-for-4 on field goal attempts covering distances of 49, 47, 41 and 46 yards. Shrader became the first USF kicker to make four field goals from 40-plus yards in a game, eclipsing Maikon Bonani’s mark of three set in 2012 vs. Syracuse.

Shrader also became just the fourth Bull to make four field goals in a game and the first since Emilio Nadelman made four vs. Cincinnati in 2017. It was the fifth game in USF history with four made field goals as Shrader joined Nadelman (two in 2017), Bonani (2012) and Marvin Kloss (2013) as the Bulls to accomplish the feat. Shrader and Bonani are the only two to make more than two of their attempts from beyond 40 yards.

Shrader gave the Bulls an early lead with a career long 49-yard field goal less than three minutes into the action. It marked USF’s longest field goal since Nadelman made a 51-yarder against UConn in 2017.

Two of the sophomore’s connections helped the Bulls build a 27-13 halftime lead and his fourth field goal from at least 40 yards out came in the fourth quarter and spotted USF a 33-20 advantage with 4:36 to play.
