Shiver, Kappeler Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

BOCA RATON, Fla. – (Oct. 31, 2019) – Lachlan Shiver and Madlen Kappeler from the men’s and women’s cross country teams have been recognized to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Monday. This is the third consecutive honor for Shiver and the first of its kind for Kappeler.

Shiver has recorded a 3.97 GPA as a biological science major at FAU. He is also a two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient and three-time C-USA Honor Roll member.

The Coral Springs, Florida native has had a record-setting season on the course, as he holds the men’s 5K and 8K school records. This season, Shiver became the first FAU runner to finish the 8K with a sub-25 minute time, has recorded two individual titles and was named C-USA Athlete of the Week for the third time in his career.

Kappeler has also shown great success in the classroom and on the course. The sophomore holds a 3.93 GPA as an exercise science and health promotion major. She also received the C-USA Academic Medal and became a C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll member after her freshman year.

At the FAU Invitational, Kappeler captured the individual 5K title in her first race in an Owl uniform. She would follow that performance with a fourth-place medal at the Mountain Dew Gator Invitational out of 306 runners with her 5K time of 18:12.00 becoming the eighth fastest time in school history. Recently at the UAB Blazer Invitational, Kappeler’s 6K time of 21:35.45 became the third fastest time in school history.

Shiver, Kappeler and the Owls are gearing up for the C-USA Cross Country Championships hosted at WKU in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The men will kick off the morning of races with the 8K at 10 a.m. followed by the women’s 5K at 11 a.m. More information on the championships can be found here.
