CLEVELAND, Ohio. – The Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) has announced the 2019-20 recipients of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards, and for the second consecutive year Nova Southeastern has reached a program high, as 92 Shark student-athletes were recognized in the 13th year of the program that honors student-athlete academic accomplishments at the NCAA Division II level.
The Sharks’ 2019-20 count of 92 student-athletes honored was a boost past last year’s 79 awards, closing out the best academic year on record with a department-wide 3.33 Grade Point Average – surpassing a 3.15 annual GPA as a program for the eighth consecutive year. As a conference, the Sunshine State Conference garnered 909 honorees, ranking seventh among the 24 NCAA Division II conferences.
As a whole, the Sunshine State Conference continues its storied history of academic excellence with the NCAA’s announcement of the latest Division II Academic Success Rates (ASR). SSC member institutions combined for an 86-percent ASR for a ninth consecutive year, which is second among Division II conferences.
To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must have completed at least four semesters with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and have been an active member of his/her team during the 2019-20 academic year. In total, there were 15,315 student-athletes from 201 institutions recognized from across the nation in this year’s record-shattering awards.
