Seniors Lead Lynn Softball to Home Finale Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Senior Elizabeth Diaz belted a two-run home run in the first while fellow senior Sophia Devesa made an incredible play at first place to end the game, giving Lynn University’s softball team 5-3 victory over Embry-Riddle on senior day.

STATS OF THE GAME:

·         Lynn scored twice in the first off the two-run blast by Diaz.  The Blue and White later added RBI singles from Britney Purser in the third and a run from a second-home steal in the fifth.

·         Kayla Sheffield capped the Fighting Knights scoring with a RBI double in the sixth.

·         Embry-Riddle kept it interesting in the seventh, scoring three times before Devesa tagged Jamie Mead on a diving play at first base to end the game.

·         Shayle Arenson stayed hot at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance and two runs scored.

·         Sheffield was 1-for-1 with a double, a pair of walks and a hit by pitch.

·         Purser, Devesa, Mackenzie Wyatt and Grace Hastings-Wydetic also logged hits.

BEYOND THE BOX:

·         Arenson is now tied for second in the Sunshine State Conference with 13 doubles.

·         Sheffield has been hit by a pitch 17 times this season, second-most in program history and second in the SSC this year.

·          Sheffield has a combined 39 free passes (walks, HBP), tied for the SSC lead.

·         Diaz is the first senior since Geena Capitini (2016) to hit a home run on senior day.

·         This is the 28th game this season decided by two runs or less.  Lynn is 10-18 in those contests.
