SB: South Florida Hosts Jacksonville for Midweek Double Header

TAMPA, March 14, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team looks to continue their winning ways when they welcome in-state foe, Jacksonville, for a midweek double header on Wednesday, March 15 at 5 p.m. 

LAST WEEK 

The Bulls went 6-2 last week, defeating Army, Pennsylvania twice, Illinois, Marist, and St. Francis. 

Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) earned the title of American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after going 5-1 in seven appearances. She pitched a complete game against Army, Penn State, and Illinois. She set a new career-high of nine strikeouts in her shutout win over the Black Knights. 

As a team, the Bulls were one stolen base away from tying a single game program record. The current record is nine stolen bases set in 1999 against FIU and then again in 2015 against Jacksonville. In South Florida’s 9-6 win over St. Francis on Sunday, the Bulls swiped eight bags. Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.), Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel), Megan Pierro (Lutz), and Bailee Leistl (Valrico) each stole two.

Notable Information: 

  • Allison Bratek has 13 RBI on the season, making her one of two Dolphins that had double digit RBI. Madison Kennedy has one less. 
  • Emma Whitfield has been the Dolphins ace, starting in 10 games with 15 appearances. The right-hander has struck out 21 batters and has an ERA of 4.63.
