SB: South Florida Falls to Top Ten Tennessee

TAMPA, Feb. 24, 2023 – The University of South Florida softball team fell to the No. 9 Tennessee Lady Volunteers, 9-0, on Friday night.    

Gabriella Nori (Weston) earned the start against the Lady Vols and quickly got to work striking out two batters in the first inning. She pitched 5.0 innings and struck out six batters. Antoinette Hill (Braidwood, Ill.) and Morgan Grubb (Bartow) also saw action in the circle.  

Emma Humplik (Orange, Texas) and Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa) showcased their friendship, catching Tennessee runners stealing in back-to-back innings.  

The game quickly became a pitcher’s duel as only three hits had been allowed through the first four innings. Hallie Bryant got the Bulls first hit on a single to left field in the first inning.  

Megan Pierro (Lutz) made an ESPN Top 10 play, jumping in the air to snag a line drive to start the fifth inning.  

Tennessee got on the board in the fifth inning with a three-run home run from Kiki Milloy. The Lady Vols added six more in the sixth inning.  

Up Next 

The Bulls will close out their portion of the USF Invitational tomorrow with a Saturday double header against Michigan State and UIC. The Bulls will take on the Spartans at 2 p.m. and the Flames at 7 p.m.
