SB: South Florida Closes Regular Season at Houston

TAMPA, May 4, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team will travel to Houston, Texas to close the 2023 regular season with a three-game series against the Cougars this Friday-Sunday.  

The Bulls are currently sitting in third place in the standings behind Wichita State and UCF. They are three games ahead of Tulsa and Houston.   

LAST WEEK 

The Bulls closed out their regular season home schedule with a clean sweep over the Memphis Tigers. South Florida outscored the Tigers 18-0. 

Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers) led the team with a .714 batting average. She hit two home runs over the weekend. In Sunday’s 5-0 win, the Bulls matched a single game record of four home runs.  

It’s the eighth time in program history and the second time this season the Bulls have matched it. It was also the second time this season that Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) has had a multi-home run performance.  

Tieley Vaughn (Wesley Chapel) hit her third home run of the season and hit the record tying run.  

Gabriella Nori (Weston) pitched 10.1 innings over the weekend, striking out six batters and earning two wins.  

South Florida currently has 28 home wins this season, tying for first in the country with Campbell and Texas.

Notable Information: 

  • Turiya Coleman and Bree Cantu lead the Cougars with eight home runs on the year. Cantu has 33 RBI while Coleman has 26.
  • Kenna Wilkey continues to be the Cougars ace. In 172.2 innings she has struck out 159 batters.
