SB: Softball Starts 28-Game Home Stand with Midweek Doubleheader

The Bulls will then host the USF Invite Thursday-Sunday  


TAMPA, Feb. 21, 2022 – After the first and only road tournament for the season, the University of South Florida softball team will start a 28-game home stand starting with a midweek double header against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles tomorrow. The first game is set for 5 p.m. and the second game will follow shortly after the conclusion of the first.   

South Florida will then turn around and host the USF Invite, welcoming Clemson, Tennessee, Michigan State, and Illinois-Chicago this Thursday-Sunday.
 
USF is coming off a four-game road stand at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational. They faced two top-25 opponents, #16/19 Duke and #8/9 Virginia Tech as well as Texas A&M and Mississippi State.

FGCU (7-4)
Date: Wednesday, Feb. 22 | 5 p.m. & 7 p.m.

Series vs. FGCU: USF leads, 13-5
Notable Information: 

  • Tayli Filla is FGCU’s most dominate bat, leading the team with a .368 batting average, three home runs, and 13 RBI through the first 10 games. 
  • In the circle, Angelina Bonilla has struck out 19 batters in 14.1 innings pitched.

Series vs. Clemson:  The first ever meeting between the two programs.
Notable Information: 

  • Through 10 games, the Tigers have accumulated 61 hits. Five players have double digit hits, Valerie Cagle leads with 19.  
  • Cagle has also pitched in all 10 games, earning five wins, struck out 39, and has an ERA of 0.72. 

 
#9/12 Tennessee (6-1)
Date: Friday, Feb. 24 | 5:30 p.m.

Series vs. Tennessee: Series is tied, 11-11-1
Notable Information: 

  • Ashley Rogers has been dominant in the circle for the Lady Volunteers. She has struck out 23 batters and has an ERA of 1.26. 
  • At the plate, it’s been Mackenzie Donihoo who has led in hits. Kiki Milloy has scored 12 of Tennessee’s 64 runs.  

 
Michigan State (5-4)
Date: Saturday, Feb. 25 | 2 p.m.

Series vs. Michigan State: USF leads, 10-6
Notable Information: 

  • Ashley Miller has been Michigan State’s ace in the circle. In 38.1 innings, she has retired 49 batters. 
  • Mandy Esman leads the team with 10 hits and 10 RBI. 

 
UIC (0-8)
Date: Saturday, Feb. 25 | 7 p.m.

Series vs. UIC: USF leads, 11-7
Notable Information: 

  • Alannah Cran and Jazmyn Casas have hit the Flames only triples. They both came against Idaho State on Feb. 18. 
  • Christina Toniolo has pitched 24.1 innings and has struck out 16 batters. She has pitched two complete games.
