SB: Softball Set for South Florida Showdown

USF welcomes Texas, Iowa, Lehigh, and Marist  


TAMPA, March 16, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team welcomes No. 11/9 Texas, Iowa, Lehigh, and Marist for their final tournament before conference play this Friday-Sunday.  

LAST OUTING 

USF split a pair of games with in-state foe, Jacksonville, on Wednesday night. In game one of the double header, the Bulls and Dolphins had a mini home run derby in the first inning. Jacksonville’s lone run came off a home run from Madison Reynolds.  

Marissa Trivelpiece and Vivian Ponn answered with one each in the bottom half of the inning. For Trivelpiece, it was her third homerun of the season and Ponn’s first. Jordyn Kadlub joined in on the home runs in game two with her first one.  

Payton Dixon pitched her sixth complete game of her career. Jaden Martinez earned her eighth start. She pitched 5.1 innings and struck out four.

Notable Information: 

  • Emily Cimino has started in all 19 games for Lehigh. The senior leads the team with six homeruns this season. 
  • Katelyn Young has been Lehigh’s go to in the circle. She has started in 10 games and retired 49 batters. She has an ERA of 1.97.

Notable Information: 

  • Ashton Maloney is batting a .437, the highest for the Longhorns. In her 71 at bats, she has 31 hits, three doubles, and one triple. She also has nine RBI. 
  • Sophia Simpson leads the pitching staff in strikeouts. In 35.2 innings, she has retired 53 batters. 

Marist (7-14)
Date: Saturday, March 18 | 11:30 a.m.

Series vs. Marist: USF leads, 3-0
Notable Information: 

  • Haley Ahr leads Marist with 22 RBI this season. She’s batting a .375 with 24 hits, eight doubles, and one homerun. 
  • Calista Phippen is Marist’s ace. She has started in eight games and made nine appearances. She has struck out 51 batters in 53 innings. 

Iowa (16-9)

Series vs. Iowa: USF leads, 8-3
Notable Information: 

  • Nia Carter has proven to be the Hawkeyes leading slugger. Currently, she is batting a .524 with 44 hits and four doubles. 
  • Breanna Vasquez has seen 56 innings in the circle. In her time, she has retired 64 batters, allowing 30 hits, and walking 18.
