SB | Sixth Inning Rally Extends Win Streak to Six

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Birthday wishes came true for Florida Atlantic softball hurler Ainsley Lambert, who tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing the Owls to mount an 8-3 come-from-behind win over the visiting FIU Panthers on Wednesday.

THE GAME

The Panthers got on the scoreboard first with a fourth inning two-run homer and added another run in the top of the fifth. Kamryn Jackson drove a two-out, two RBI double down the right field line to score Presley Leebrick and Jesiana Mora, pulling FAU within one run at 3-2.

Jaden Martinez drew the start for the Owls and gave way to Lambert after 4.1 innings of work. Lambert, who moved to 3-0 on the year, retired the first five Panther batters she faced, allowing the Owls offense to take over in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Katelynn de Leon drew a one-out walk and Trinity Schlotterbeck followed with a homer to right to give Florida Atlantic its first lead of the game at 4-3. But the Owls were not done. Leebrick drew a two out walk, followed by a Panther error that allowed Leebrick to score and brought the hot hitting Jackson back to the plate for her second two RBI double, this time to right center. FAU would not rest on the three-run lead by capitalizing on another FIU miscue allowing the Owls to score two, making it 8-3.

Lambert returned to the circle for a clean seventh, facing the minimum eight in her Wednesday outing.
