BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic softball team defeated Columbia 7-0 and Rhode Island 1-0 (8) on Sunday to improve their record to 13-4 on the year.

The Owls, who went 5-1 in the Owl Classic, are riding a five-game winning streak and added to their impressive weekend by outscoring their opponents 25-4 with three-straight shutouts.

GAME ONE

Florida Atlantic returned to the field on Sunday, hosting Columbia after defeating the Lions 9-0 on Saturday night. The Owls scored the only runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning. Presley Leebrick got the ball rolling with a double and moved to third on a ground out. Kamryn Jackson followed with a walk and a stolen base, setting the table for a two-out, two RBI double by Jesiana Mora, who was 12-for-17 on the weekend with six RBI and seven doubles.

While starting pitcher Gabby Sacco kept Columbia off the board, the Owls would add an unearned run in the fourth and tag on four more runs in the fifth on five hits, including a home run by Jackson, her third of the weekend.

Sacco, who allowed just one hit through five innings of work to pick up the win, gave way to Ainsley Lambert who tossed a scoreless sixth. Kelsey Endress completed the seven-inning combined shutout with a scoreless seventh and struck out two.

GAME TWO

Game two saw Trinity Schlotterbeck toss the eight-inning shutout. Schlotterbeck scattered four RIU hits, struck out four and walked three in the win.

Playing under international tiebreaker rules, RIU started the eighth with a runner on second base. The Rams executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third, but Schlotterbeck then bookended a walk between two strikeouts to prevent the run from scoring.

The Owls began the bottom of the eighth with Jackson on second and the hot-hitting Mora at the plate. Mora stroked a game wining line drive to rightfield scoring Jackson from second for the 1-0 final.
