SB: Garcia-Soto Named AAC Player of the Week

Payton Dixon named to Honor Roll  


Irving, Texas, March 20, 2023 – After hitting her first career home run to walk off No.11/9 Texas on Friday night, Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa) was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.  

Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning tied with Texas, Garcia-Soto stepped up the plate and after one pitch, she knocked her first career home run over the left field wall. Early in the day, she had he walk off hit to defeat Lehigh 8-7 in eight innings.  

Over the weekend, she led the team, batting a .500, earning seven hits, four runs and four RBIs, and one homerun. She went 2-for- 2 on stolen bases and didn’t strike out once. In the field, she had 11 putouts and 12 assists.  

Left-hander Payton Dixon earned on spot on this week’s AAC Honor Roll. She finished the weekend with a 2-0 record with her two wins over Lehigh and Marist. She struck out 13 batters and held her opponents to a .154 average at the plate.  

South Florida opens conference play this weekend when they welcome the East Carolina Pirates this Friday to Sunday.
