South Florida clinches No. 3 seed in the AAC Tournament
HOUSTON, Texas, May 6, 2023 – Redshirt freshman, Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.), tossed her first career no-hitter in the University of South Florida (31-23, 10-7 AAC) 8-0 win over the Houston Cougars (20-29, 7-10 AAC) on Saturday afternoon.
The last no-hitter from South Florida was back on April 2, 2022, when Georgina Corrick shut down East Carolina, 6-0.
With the win, the Bulls have secured the No. 3 seed in this year’s American Athletic Conference Tournament. USF will host this year’s tournament from May 11-13.
South Florida’s eight runs came in in two innings, four in the third and four in the fifth. Five of the runs scored came off of two home runs. Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers) hit a two-run home run in the of the fourth.
Camille Ortiz-Martinez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) solidified the Bulls victory with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth as well as recording the final out of the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) hit her 13th double of the season in the fifth. She is one away from breaking into the top 10 single season records. Her double brought the fifth run across the plate.
Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel), Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa), Natalie Zweig (Tampa), Bailee Leistl (Valrico), and Megan Pierro (Lutz) each scored a run. Garcia-Soto scored on Ponn’s home run. Zweig and Leistl were brought in on Ortiz-Martinez’s home run.

- Garcia-Soto led with two runs.
- Ortiz-Martinez led with three RBI.
- Ponn and Trivelpiece are one home run away from cracking into the top 10 single season home run records.
- Dixon tossed her seventh complete game of the season.
- South Florida has shutout 10 of their opponents this season. Six of those have come against conference opponents.
