Berthiaume Goes Deep Twice as FAU Takes Series From UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Florida Atlantic University softball team captured the series over UTSA on Saturday with a 9-4 victory. The Owls now stand at 32-18 and 14-9 in C-USA play heading into the last day of the regular season.

OWLS GO YARD

Just like game one, the Owls wasted no time in taking the upper hand in the first inning. Sara BerthiaumeCammeo Presutti and Jesiana Mora worked walks to start the game. After an Olivia Peterson RBI single made it 1-0, Riley Ennis ripped a grand slam to center field. The grand slam was remarkably her second in as many games, which made it a 5-0 Owl lead in the first.

UTSA countered with four runs in the first, but the Owls’ power continued when Peterson blasted a solo shot to left. The homers kept on coming, as Berthiaume ripped a solo shot to right in the fourth inning to make it a 7-4 Owl lead.

Summer Clark entered in relief of Gabby Sacco after the second inning and shut down the UTSA bats. In the top of the sixth, the game entered a two hour and 20-minute lightning delay, but the Owls weathered the storm and continued to rake.

Berthiaume continued to make a difference, hitting her second home run of the game right after the weather delay, a two-run shot to push the lead to 9-4 FAU.
