Sankoh’s Brace Not Enough to Lift Lynn Women’s Soccer over Barry

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s soccer team was paced by a two-goal effort from forward Anniina Sankoh, but couldn’t get past a tough Barry University squad, falling 3-2 on Wednesday evening.

STATS OF THE GAME:

·         Sankoh showed her prowess on the ball throughout the match, pressuring the Bucs backline to the tune of eight total shots. The sophomore’s two goals came via a breakaway after a long ball from Kyla Gill in the 29th minute and then a left-footed screamer, assisted by Bianca Christ, in the 82nd minute.

·         Barry scored the opening goal in the 12th minute, staking itself to a 1-0 advantage before Sankoh’s equalizer put the score at 1-all at half. The Bucs then netted two attempts in a six-minute span between the 74th and 80th minutes to gain a firm hold on the match.

·         Lynn outshot Barry 8-7 in the opening 45:00, but the Bucs stormed back, outshooting Lynn 13-6 the rest of the way.

·         Devan Malcolm had another solid night between the pipes, stopping seven shots in 90:00.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

·         Sankoh scored her second and third goals in SSC play on Wednesday night, snapping a three-game scoreless drought.

·         This marks the first home conference loss of the season for the Blue and White.

·         After falling in their first four contests, Barry is now 2-2-0 in their last four, which began with the start of SSC play.

·         The Blue and White now sit four points back of the top-six with five games remaining. The top-six teams will qualify for the SSC Tournament.
