Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have activated tight end Mike Gesicki off the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Gesicki has played in 47 games with 21 starts over three seasons (2018-20) with the Dolphins. He has 126 career receptions for 1,475 yards (11.7 avg.) and 11 touchdowns. Gesicki’s 703 receiving yards in 2020 were second-most by a tight end in Dolphins history and ranked fourth among NFL tight ends that season. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (42nd overall) by Miami in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins waive Sunahara

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have waived long snapper Rex Sunahara.

Sunahara spent part of last season with the Dolphins practice squad and had multiple stints on the active roster this offseason. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on Aug. 1, 2020. Sunahara was a three-year letterman (2017-19) at West Virginia, where he played in 25 career games.

Jaguars Claim CB Lorenzo Burns

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed CB Lorenzo Burns off of waivers from the Arizona Cardinals, the team announced today.

Burns, 5-10, 183, signed with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent at the conclusion of the 2021 draft. He attended the University of Arizona where he played in 42 games with 40 starts in five seasons (2016-20). Burns finished his career at Arizona with 192 total tackles (142 solo), nine interceptions, 35 passes defensed and eight tackles for loss. In his final two seasons as a Wildcat, Burns was a Pac-12 honorable mention and, in 2019, he was voted as the team defensive MVP.

Burns attended Linfield Christian High School in Temecula, Calif. where he was a three-time captain and finished his career with 166 tackles, 26 passes defensed, five interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He also ran track and won the CIF Division 4 triple jump championship.
