Rosalind Osgood will resign from Broward County School Board to run for Florida Senate, New Restaurant comes to Hollywood, and Broward School Board begins National Search

Rosalind Osgood, chairwoman of the Broward County School Board has said she will resign from the Board to run for a seat in the Florida Senate. She will submit a letter of resignation by the end of the day on Friday. It will take effect in four months.

This means that Gov. Ron DeSantis will be able to appoint her replacement to the District 5 School Board seat. DeSantis has been very critical of the School Board. He criticized the Board’s handling of former Superintendent Robert Runcie and its imposition of mask mandates which defied his expectations. Osgood was a strong supporter of the mask policy. She said it was an important tool to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The board recently voted to relax the mask mandate policy for high school students but keep it in place for lower grades.

Osgood is required to resign from the Board to run for the Florida Senate.

Los 3 Tacos comes to Hollywood

From David Volz

Downtown Hollywood has a new restaurant, Los 3 Tacos.

We wanted to open an attraction, add something that is missing to the area,” said Leonel Garcia, Manager of Los 3 Tacos, at 1907 Hollywood Boulevard, the newest entry to the array of international eateries in Downtown Hollywood. “We felt that most of the Mexican restaurants in the area did not offer authentic Mexican street food, so we came up with this.”

“This” is Los 3 Tacos, an authentic Mexican taqueria, where, he explained, everything, including the food, drinks, beers, salsas, music and décor, is 100% Mexican. Glow-in-dark murals painted on the walls reflect Mexican culture, and music, sometimes live — maybe even a Mariachi band — are all designed to create a party atmosphere, “a Mexican fiesta, not just a restaurant.”

So why was the restaurant named Three Tacos?

“Tacos come in threes, it’s the perfect portion,” he smiled.

Los 3 Tacos is a collaboration between two Hollywood Boulevard business owners: Dominick Mauro, long-time owner of the well-known Mauro’s Pizza, and Hollywood Lakes resident Gilly Hazan, who owns Lev’s Pawn shop and the Lionheart Auction Group, both directly across the street from the new restaurant. Garcia also manages Mauro’s and will split his time between the two.

“We feel that Downtown Hollywood has great potential,” said Hazan. “We want to continue to be part of the growth.”

Among the menu highlights at Los 3 Tacos are, of course, tacos of all varieties: Los Tres Tacos ($10 for three); Tacos para Todos ($28 for 10); Plantain Nachos ($12); Queso Fundido ($12); and Yuca Bites ($12).

Los 3 Tacos is open Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 pm to midnight, Fridays and Saturdays from 5 pm to 2 am, and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Dine in, takeout and delivery are available. Please call 754-400-8683 for further information.

Broward School Board begins a national search for a permanent superintendent

From David Volz

The Broward County School Board has launched a national search for a permanent superintendent and is inviting the community to be involved in this important process. Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is the sixth largest school district in the United States. It was Florida’s first fully accredited school system and employs more than 30,000 full-time and part-time staff members. Consistent with the School Board’s commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement, the Board hired Ray and Associates, an independent firm that specializes in educational executive leadership searches, and created a webpage dedicated to informing the BCPS community and the public about the process, progress and important dates and events related to the search. The Board wants the process to include the participation of staff, teachers, students, parents and guardians, and the entire Broward community. As a first step, the search firm has launched a short survey seeking input on the qualities that are most important to stakeholders in a superintendent.
