REVIEWING WEEK SEVEN OF THE 2021 COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON

Dear Readers,

Coming into this past week, we had five teams from the Big Ten ranked in the top ten of the major polls. The SEC is the only other conference to reach that milestone, which happened 23 times.
I hope all people who have an official vote for national awards really took note of a lot of players such as UTSA RB Sincere McCormick, Colorado State P Ryan Stonehouse, Oklahoma RB Kennedy Brooks, Oregon State LB Avery Roberts, Appalachian State LB D’Marco Jackson, Western Michigan WR Skyy Moore, Colorado State TE Trey McBride, Colorado LB Carson Wells, Western Kentucky WR Jerreth Sterns, San Jose State TE Derrick Deese Jr, and more to name for their performances in wins over their respective opponents. It stinks that the SBC (the Sun Belt Conference) doesn’t get enough tv exposure to see good football teams such as Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State.

I had thought of two other players to consider and be on my Weekly Heisman Trophy Ballot week. Oklahoma RB Kennedy Brooks, Iowa State RB Breece Hall, Utah LB Devin Lloyd, and Purdue WR David Bell were among players I considered. Once I decide which three players should be on the Weekly Heisman Trophy Ballot, the next hard part is deciding who should 1,2, and 3 on those weekly Heisman Trophy ballots.

Take care all! Sincerely, RICH

RICH’S WEEKLY HEISMAN TROPHY BALLOT

RICH’S TOP TEN

3. Oklahoma (4)

4. Michigan (5)

5. Oklahoma State (6)

6. Alabama (8)

7. Coastal Carolina

8. Oregon (9)

9. Ohio State (10)

10. Wake Forest (OTM)

OTHER TEAMS TO MENTION (OTM):Michigan State, SMU, Mississippi, Iowa (2), San Diego State, and Penn State

RANKINGS ANALYSIS:

With the exception of #1 Georgia and #7 Coastal Carolina, all teams ranked move up a spot in my top ten rankings…Iowa moved down to #2 to among my OTMs. The Hawkeyes played poorly during a 24-7 upset homecoming loss against Purdue. The coaching staff should’ve read their history books about the Boilermakers upsetting teams who were ranked in the top five. The Iowa defense should’ve prepared better for Purdue WR David Bell, who has given them headaches in recent games by having 13 catches for over 100 yards in each of the last two meetings (2019-2) of this series. It all caught up to these Hawks as Bell had the best performance of his career. Iowa, who is now ranked #11 in the major polls, will use this bye-week and go to the drawing board with chance to redeem themselves for an Oct.30 road game against Wisconsin…No surprise that #1 Georgia had a dominating 30-13 home win over Kentucky, who were on their first 6-0 start since 1950 to be among my OTMs. The Bulldogs remain on a current 11-game winning streak, including a 7-0 start. This football team will have a bye-week before an Oct.30 neutral-site game (in Jacksonville, FL) against rival Florida. If the Dawgs beat the Gators, consider their tickets to the SEC Championship Game (close to home in Atlanta, GA) PUNCHED….Cincinnati moved up from #3 to #2 after their dominating 56-21 home win over UCF. The UC Bearcats have a road game against Navy this SAT (Noon, ESPN2)…Oklahoma moved up from #4 to #3 after a 52-21 home win over TCU. The Sooners are on a current 15-game winning streak (including a 7-0 start this season), which is the longest active streak in the nation. The Oklahoma offense is a lot different and better with Freshman QB Caleb Williams is the new starting QB. More improvement needs to be made on defense. This football team has a road game against Kansas this SAT (Noon, ABC)…Michigan moved up from #5 to #3 after a bye-week. The U-M Wolverines have a home game against Northwestern this SAT (Noon FOX). This football team should get past these Wildcats before their showdown against undefeated Michigan State, who is among my OTMs and will have a bye-week after a tougher than expected 20-15 road win over Indiana. If a top ten team losses this weekend, expect the MSU Spartans to move into the top ten everywhere…Oklahoma State moved up from #6 to #5 after a tough as expected 32-24 road win over Texas. The OSU Cowboys used that bye-week and overcame a 17-3 deficit against the Longhorns to remain undefeated and become bowl-eligible for a 16th straight season, which is a school record…Alabama moved up from #8 to #6 after a 49-9 road win over Miss. State. I really thought the MSU Bulldogs would give the Crimson Tide all kinds of headaches but it was no contest. Alabama will have a home game against Tennessee this SAT (7 PM, ESPN).. Coastal Carolina is coming off a bye-week and will be tested. The CCU Chanticleers will have a challenging road game against Appalachian State this WED (7:30 PM, ESPN). Should this football team get a road win over the App State Mountaineers, everything should be smooth sailing for the defending SBC Champions…Oregon  moved up from #9 to #8 after a tough 24-17 home win over California. RB Travis Dye is finally doing a great job of picking up where RB C.J Verdell left off after Verdell suffered a season-ending (left leg) injury. The Ducks will have a road game against UCLA this SAT (3:30 PM, ESPN). ESPN College Game Day will be there for this game…Ohio State moved up from #10 to #9 after a bye-week. The Buckeyes have become a better football team since that home loss against Oregon. This football team will have a road game against Indiana this SAT (7:30 PM, ABC)…. Wake Forest moved up from my OTMs to #10 after a bye-week. The Demon Deacons survived a tough road scare from Syracuse two SAT’s ago to get on their first 6-0 start since 1944. This football team will have a road game against Army this SAT (Noon, CBSSN)… SMU, who are among my OTMs, is coming off a bye-week after a tough 31-24 road win over Navy. The Mustangs have a home game against Tulane this THURS (7:30 PM, ESPN). Cincinnati is hoping SMU is undefeated coming into their showdown on Nov.20 to continue and plead their case of being among those four teams being apart of the eighth annual college football playoffs…Penn State is coming off a bye-week after a 23-20 road loss against Iowa. The Nittany Lions used this bye-week to regroup for a home game against Illinois this SAT (Noon, ABC)… San Diego State remains among my OTMs after a 19-13 road win (1 OT) over rival San Jose State to remanin on a 6-0 start. The DB corp is the strenght of this football team. The Aztecs have a tough road game against Air Force this SAT (7 PM, CBSSN)… If Ohio State and Penn State are victorious in each of their respective games this SAT, ESPN College Game Day better come for the Penn State at Ohio State game…ENJOY THE GAMES THIS WEEKEND!!!!
