REVIEWING WEEK 15 OF THE 2020 COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON

I may have said this to you all and it bears repeating. Alabama WR DeVonta Smith’s name should be mentioned in Heisman Trophy consideration. He can do the same as teammate WR/RS Jaylen Waddle in making big plays on offense and special teams. All people are saying is Smith’s teammate QB Mac Jones and Florida QB Kyle Trask. Smith will definitely win the Biletnikoff Award but he should be a finalist.
Here are my Championship Game predictions! Clemson will defeat undefeated #2 Notre Dame in the ACC Championship Game.  #1 Alabama will defeat Florida in the SEC Championship Game to remain undefeated. If ‘Bama loses, the Crimson Tide will still make the seventh annual college football playoffs. Whatever the spread is, consider it covered- Ohio State will defeat Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game to remain undefeated. USC will defeat Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game to remain undefeated. Oklahoma will defeat Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship Game to six-peat as Big 12 Champions. Cincinnati will defeat Tulsa in the AAC Championship Game to remain undefeated.  Boise State will defeat undefeated San Jose State in the MW Championship Game.  Coastal Carolina will defeat Louisiana in the SBC Championship Game to remain undefeated. Buffalo will defeat Ball State in the MAC Championship Game to remain undefeated. Marshall will defeat UAB in the C-USA Championship Game. I know I won’t be perfect on all my predictions but there are a couple that I am hoping that I am wrong on.
I am saddened that Auburn fired Head Coach Gus Malzahn from his job after the Tigers are coming off a 24-10 road win over Miss. State. I wish the higher-ups (especially the athletic dept) could’ve considered keeping him for another season. He’s done a lot since arriving back on the plains. Malzahn inherited an Auburn football team coming off a 3-9 mark in 2012 and coached them to a 12-2 mark (inc. a win over Missouri in the SEC Championship Game and a loss against Florida State in the BCS National Championship Game) to earn National Coach of the Year honors. I know Malzahn will resurface at any kind of school and who knows who will accept an offer to become the new Auburn head coach.
No surprise that Arizona fired Head Coach Kevin Sumlin from his job after that disastrous 70-7 road loss against rival Arizona State. He also had head coaching jobs at Houston and Texas A&M (2012-17). I think Sumlin will resurface at a non-power school that has an opening.
This past week, ACC schools such as Boston College, Pittsburgh, and Virginia announced that they will not play in a bowl game because of the ongoing CO-VID19 pandemic and a lot of bowl games have gotten cancelled. The B.C Eagles were the first to make that announcement. The Pitt Panthers made that announcement official after their season-finale road win over Georgia Tech. Virginia just announced that they will not play in a bowl game.
Next week, we will finally crown conference champions and find out WHO’S IN (the playoffs that is) and the all the bowl game pairings.  sincerely, RICH
RICH’S WEEKLY HEISMAN TROPHY BALLOT1. Kedon Slovis, QB, USC(Passed 30-47, 344 yards, 5 TDs, and 2 INTs in the USC Trojans’ 43-38 comeback road win over in-state rival UCLA. Had an 8-yard passing TD-received by WR Amon Ra-St. Brown on 1st and Goal with 0:16 remaining- to eventually win this game. His 70.3 pass completion percentage leads the Pac-12 and eighth nationally.)2. Zach Wilson, QB, BYU(Passed 25-34, 310 yards, and 3 TDs in the BYU Cougars’ 28-14 home-finale win over San Diego State. His 73.2 pass completion percentage is fourth nationally.)3. DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama(Returned 3 punts, 111 yards, and 1 TD of 84 yards in the Crimson Tide’s 52-3 road win over Arkansas. Received 3 catches for 22 yards, including a 10-yard catch. His 3,436 career receiving yards are second-most in school history. His 17 scoring TDs and 155.9 all-purpose running yards are second in the SEC.)
RICH’S TOP TEN1. Alabama2. Notre Dame3. Cincinnati 4. Ohio State5. Clemson6. Texas A&M (7)7. Coastal Carolina (9)8. Tulsa (10)9. BYU (OTM)10. USC (not ranked or mentioned)OTHER TEAMS TO MENTION (OTM):Louisiana, Liberty, San Jose State, Buffalo, and IndianaRANKINGS ANALYSIS:As you can see, the top five remain the same.  ..Miami was ranked #6 in my top ten rankings and #9 in the polls prior to a disappointing 62-26 home loss against North Carolina. This high-powered Hurricanes defense allowed 778 total yards, which is a single-game school record, against this high-powered UNC Tar Heels offense. Boy, these ‘Canes wish All-ACC DE Gregory Rouseau didn’t sit out for this entire season because they sure could’ve had him for this game. I don’t know what to tell you but there won’t be any oranges for these ‘Canes because I don’t think the playoff committee would want to have Miami have another home game at their home stadium for the Orange Bowl…The ACC Championship Game is set!  Undefeated #2 Notre Dame, who is 10-0 with a first place finish, will take on #5 Clemson, who is 9-1 with a second place finish, in a rematch for the ACC Championship this SAT (4 PM, ABC) after coming off a bye-week. As you know, the Fighting Irish won the first match in a 47-40 home win over the Tigers (minus All-ACC QB Trevor Lawrence). The winner of this game will be apart of the seventh annual college football playoffs. Win or lose, Notre Dame could still get in the playoffs but if N-D wins, Clemson is out…No surprise that #1 Alabama had another blowout win in a 52-3 road win (including a 38-3 lead at halftime) over Arkansas.  Thing that surprised me is that RB Najee Harris didn’t have over 100 rushing yards,  WR DeVonta Smith didn’t receive 5 catches for over 100 yards, and QB Mac Jones didn’t have a passing TD. Back-ups for ‘Bama got a lot of playing time in this game. The undefeated Crimson Tide will play Florida in the SEC Championship Game this SAT (8 PM)…Speaking of Florida, the Gators are out of the running for the playoffs. Florida was #8 in my top ten rankings before that 37-34 upset home loss against LSU. The Gators will play for pride against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. An upset win over the Crimson Tide would help the Gators earn a berth in a New Year’s Six major bowl game for a third straight season…Undefeated #3 Cincinnati is coming off another bye-week after a regular season road game against Tulsa, who moved up from #10 to #8, got cancelled because of CO-VID19. The UC Bearcats, who are 8-0, will have a home game against the Golden Hurricanes in the AAC Championship Game this SAT (8PM, ABC). If Cincy beats Tulsa, the Bearcats will get the guaranteed non-power conference berth in the New Year’s Six major bowl games. If Tulsa wins, the Golden Hurricanes will need Coastal Carolina to lose the SBC Championship Game against Louisiana, who could also get that guaranteed non-power conference berth…Undefeated #4 Ohio State had another bye-week after their home-finale game against rival Michigan was canceled because of CO-VID19. The Buckeyes will take on Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game this SAT (Noon, FOX). A win over the Wildcats should put Ohio State in the playoffs…Indiana is among my OTMs because their only loss was a road loss against Ohio State last month. The Hoosiers are two weeks removed from a 14-6 upset road win over Wisconsin. Indiana will have a rescheduled home game against rival Purdue this FRI (7:30 PM, BTN). If the Hoosiers beat the Boilermakers, a berth in a New Year’s Six major bowl game could be in the cards…I finally decided to have undefeated USC ranked in my top ten rankings at #10. The USC Trojans are coming off a 43-38 comeback road win over in-state rival UCLA to remain as the only undefeated school in the Pac-12. USC will play Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game this FRI (8PM, FOX)….Texas A&M moved from #6 to #7 after another bye-week. The Aggies’ home game against Mississippi was cancelled because of CO-VID19. Texas A&M will have a rescheduled road game against Tennessee this SAT (Noon, ESPN)…BYU is back into my top ten rankings. The BYU Cougars are coming off a 28-14 home-finale win over San Diego State. BYU will await who they play in a bowl game…The SBC Championship Game is set for a rematch between undefeated #7 Coastal Carolina having a home game against Louisiana this SAT(3:30 PM, ESPN). The Chanticleers had a road win over the Ragin’ Cajuns in that regular season game. The winner might have a shot at getting that guaranteed berth for a non-power conference champion to play in a New Year’s Six major bowl game…San Jose State remains undefeated and is among my OTMs. The SJSU Spartans are on their first 6-0 start since 1939 after a 30-20 neutral-site win (in Las Vegas, NV) over Nevada. San Jose State will be an underdog against Boise State in the MW Championship Game this SAT (4:15 PM, FOX)….Liberty, who is 9-1, is among my OTMs and are awaiting who they will be playing  in a bowl game…Buffalo remains undefeated because their rushing game is unstoppable, which is why they are among my OTMs. The Bulls are coming off a 56-7 home-finale win over Akron. Buffalo will take on Akron in the MAC Championship Game this FRI (7:30 PM, ESPN)…
