Restaurant returns to Hollywood

A well-known local restaurant Red Thai and Sushi by Yaya, has returned to Downtown Hollywood. Their new location at 1907 Hollywood Boulevard offers a new, expanded menu that includes traditional items and vegan options.

After a two-year hiatus due to a fire, the restaurant, owned and run by Yaya Phillips, is back in business, just up the street from the old location.

“Everybody who knows me starts to cry when they see me!” said Phillips. “They say, ‘Yaya, I missed you a lot!’ I say, ‘Don’t worry, I will take care of you.'”

Phillips also took care of her staff, almost all of whom, from servers to chefs, are back at work in the new location. There are additions to the menu, which, while keeping all its Thai, sushi and Japanese favorites, has greatly expanded its vegetarian and vegan selections.

Among the customer favorites are Pad Thai, pan-fried noodles with eggs, peanuts, green onion, and bean sprouts plus your choice of protein, Poke Bowls, which are Hawaiian diced raw fish dishes, a full range of sushi choices with rolls from and combos from to a Boat for Three for and Japanese appetizers and entrees from edamame at to Seafood Tempura. The vegan menu includes fried “chicken” buffalo wings for and “shrimp” fried rice. The dessert menu features Thai doughnuts for ice cream tempura as well as other options. They also offer excellent Thai and Japanese lunch specials, along with a selection of sake, beer, and wine.

After 35 years in the US, mostly in the restaurant and hospitality business, Phillips, a native of Bangkok, Thailand and an excellent chef who loves to cook, is thrilled to be back in business, and especially back in Downtown Hollywood.

“We have always liked being in Downtown Hollywood, and we have seen a lot of changes, but it’s never been as good as it is now,” she said. “It’s more popular, more beautiful, and better than ever!”

Red Thai and Sushi by Yaya is open from 11 am to 11 pm Monday to Thursday, Friday from 11 am to 1 am, Saturday from 2:30 pm to 1 am, and Sunday from 2:30 to 11 pm.
