Report released on Tower Collapse

Miami Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava issue a statement regarding a report released by the Miami-Dade Grand Jury entitled “Surfside Condo Collapse Recommendations to Make Buildings Safer.”

“We are committed to getting answers and accountability for the victims of the unthinkable tragedy in Surfside. I am thankful for the hard work of the Grand Jury and the State Attorney’s office in putting this report together that reiterates the urgent need for diverse measures to increase the standards of building safety in Miami-Dade County.

We are pleased that the Grand Jury’s report includes several recommendations the County has already made and proposals we’re working with policymakers at all levels to advance – including early notices for recertification, moving to a 30-year recertification process, and providing financial support for condo associations to make essential repairs.

In the days ahead my administration will be carefully reviewing all the recommendations in the report to determine what other actions we can swiftly implement. We remain committed to working closely hand in hand with the State Attorney to pave a path forward from this tragedy that ensures a disaster like this one never happens again in our community.”
