Renaissance Festival begins in Deerfield Beach

From David Volz

The Renaissance Festival opened on the weekend of February 3-4 at Quiet Waters Park. It will run until March 24.

The festival celebrates life in the 1500s and 1600s in Europe. Those who come can escape into another world and time. You can go to the Adrian Empire see knights engage in combat. They fight until one person is too tired to continue and yields to the winner.

There is a jousting exhibition where knights fight on horseback. And there is demonstration of canons and early guns from the Royal Artillery encampment. There are a variety of encampments including a display of the Ottoman Empire, an apothecary, showing early medicine and other displays of life in old Europe.

There is also plenty of food and drink. One can enjoy a turkey leg with a beer of hamburgers and a wide variety of other foods. There is plenty of entertainment including lively music and comedy shows.
