Remainder of Champlain Building South will come down

The remainder of the Champlain Building South will be demolished this weekend  because of potential impacts from Tropical Storm Elsa. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the building will come down to ensure safety of residents and first responders.  The first responders will resume search and rescue efforts as soon as possible after the demolition. The state will also cover all costs associated with the demolition of the building.

The search and rescue mission was suspended as crews began boring holes into the concrete of the portion of the Champlain building that was still standing, according to Miami-Dade Assistant Fire Chief Raide Jadallah. He told family members of those missing that the building would be brought down very soon.
