Rays Optimism

BY Byron Richmond

As a Tampa Bay Rays fan, I am proud of what these players are doing by fighting their guts out to make the playoffs. It truly is remarkable that every year the Rays seem to win anywhere between 80 to 90 games a year on one of the worst pay rolls in the league. I mean it starts from the top to the bottom who we have to give kudos to as fans.

We have the best farm system in the league beating out my San Diego Padres with all of our Minor League affiliates are always in contention to win their respective leagues championship.

I’d have to say the main person who keeps this train in shape is Kevin Cash and fans don’t be upset with the moves he makes in games because in the end he keeps the locker room believing In themselves and the next person in line is our GM Eric Neander. I know he hasn’t made the popular moves in getting rid of our best players in the past, but again fans no need to be discouraged because the trades he makes getting rid of these players, he gets good talented prospects that will help us in years down the road.

As for this year, can we hold onto our playoff spot I think so because unlike the other teams in contention we have heart. In order to achieve this goal though we need to beat these lower bottom feeder teams and have a run like we did here at the Trop going 9-1 against the Tigers, Orioles and Blue Jays for our latest home stand we had. Now fellow Rays fans the rest is scoreboard watching and crossing our fingers that the Indians who are 2.5 games out and the Athletics who are 1.5 games ahead get on hot tears and beat us to the punch.
