Pompano Beach to offer help in starting new businesses

Pompano Beach residents who want to start a business will get some help.

The City’s Development Services Department has begun accepting Zoning Use Certificate applications online. The Zoning Use Certificate application is the first step in order to get the approval to start a business in the City of Pompano Beach.

The Zoning Use Certificate applications are reviewed by multiple City departments to ensure that the proposed business is permitted to operate at the location and also within the building it is proposing to occupy. The applicants will now be able to submit their application, pay the fee, schedule inspections and receive their approval all online without coming to City Hall. Applicants only need a valid email address to create an account and submit the form.

The electronic application improvements will allow for more transparency in the process by allowing applicants the ability to monitor the progress of their application online, read the comments issued by staff and see when it has been completed. Additionally, the new online process is more efficient. The software requests specific information from the applicant that staff needs to evaluate the business in order to render a decision.

Currently, staff must contact the applicant by email or phone in order to get a complete understanding of the business. This will reduce duplication, paper waste and time for staff and the applicant.
