Pompano Beach celebrates Juneteenth

Pompano Beach celebrated Juneteenth with the annual Blues and Sweet Potato Pie Festival at ther  Park.

Those who came enjoyed live music and presentations by older African American residents who described the good old days and some of the challenges people faced years ago. One woman described what it was like to attend Blanche Ely High School when schools were segregated.

There were art presentations  and games for the children. You could enjoy a sweet potato pie and other treats. There were sack races and a large chess board for the children. It was a chance to people from the community to come together, enjoy some music, discuss past memories and have some fun together.
