Pistons GT Set to Open Season on March 24 With THE TIPOFF Tournament

DETROIT ­– The Pistons Gaming Team announced today its 2020 NBA 2K League schedule. Pistons GT begins its third season in the league with the NBA 2K THE TIPOFF Tournament powered by AT&T on March 24, followed by its regular season debut on April 1. The season runs through July 18, with the 2020 NBA 2K League Playoffs set to tip on July 29.

The NBA 2K League regular season will begin on April 1, featuring 14 weeks of regular season matchups and three weeks of tournaments (THE TIPOFF, THE TURN AND THE TICKET). Pistons GT opens the season with two games as part of THE TIPOFF Tournament which will take place at the new NBA 2K League Studio in Manhattan. 

Each team will play a total of 16 regular season games, which will be on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The majority of regular season games will take place at the new NBA 2K League Studio in Manhattan and will be livestreamed on the league’s Twitch and Youtube channels. Additionally, every Friday, the NBA 2K League Studio will host a “Game of the Week”.

The Pistons GT regular season schedule is highlighted by a matchup with 2019 NBA 2K League Champion T-Wolves Gaming (June 13), as well as a contest against the first international NBA 2K League team in Gen G. Tigers (April 9). New this season, the club will travel to Minneapolis for three games in a team-hosted round-robin tournament on June 13. The round-robin event will have a prize pool of $20,000 with the winner of the championship game receiving $15,000.

The weekly matchups during the regular season will determine playoff seeding, while the three tournaments offer prize pools and in the final tournament, THE TICKET, one guaranteed spot in the playoffs will also be handed to the winner. The league will offer $1.4 million in prize money throughout the 2020 season, with the largest prize pool reserved for the 2020 NBA 2K League Champions.

Pistons GT is entering its third season in the NBA 2K League and is one of 23 franchises participating in the league in 2020. Pistons GT made one postseason appearance in 2018 and is headed by 2018 NBA 2K League Coach of the Year Duane Burton and General Manager Adam Rubin. The NBA 2K League is the first official esports league operated by a U.S. professional sports league. According to Newzoo, the global esports audience will reach 453.8 million in 2020 and will generate revenues of $1.1 billion. NBA 2K League content has generated more than 306 million video views across all NBA and NBA 2K League social media platforms, while the league and its 23 teams have more than 2.0 million combined followers on those platforms.
